AI Basics for Business: What This Course Covers

This free AI introduction course is designed for business professionals who need to understand AI without the hype or jargon. In 20 minutes, you'll learn what AI actually is, why it suddenly seems to be everywhere, and, critically, why it gets things wrong.

Most AI training focuses on what AI can do. This course focuses on what you need to know to use it responsibly: the difference between predictive and generative AI, why AI confidence does not equal correctness, how to write effective prompts using the Role-Context-Task-Format framework, and why you remain legally and professionally accountable for AI-generated outputs.

You'll receive a certificate of completion that can be used to demonstrate AI literacy to your organisation, clients, or regulators.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AI in simple terms for business?

AI is software that learns patterns from data to make predictions or generate content. For business, this means predictive AI (forecasting, classification) and generative AI (writing, summarising, answering questions).

Why does AI get things wrong?

AI generates responses based on statistical patterns, not understanding. It produces confident-sounding answers even when wrong, known as hallucinations. This course covers why this happens and how to spot it.

Am I responsible for AI-generated content?

Yes. Under UK and EU regulations, the person who uses AI output in a business context remains accountable for its accuracy, compliance, and consequences.
